Surely every town with a thriving scene has one or two—bands who show up, plug in and rock out but never get around to capturing the jams on record. But with the success of acts like Thee Oh Sees, Woods and Ty Segall, it’s unlikely Brooklyn’s Prince Rupert’s Drops could’ve stayed a secret for much longer.
Seven years into their journey and with their dues paid on the live circuit, Prince Rupert’s Drops will release their debut LP, Run Slow, in November. The album not only marks the first time the band’s psych-pop will spring forth from the grooves of vinyl, but also the arrival of Beyond Beyond Is Beyond Records—operated by EVR's far-out specialist, Mike Newman.
Lungs is Run Slow’s opener and it couldn’t be a more perfect introduction to the world of Prince Rupert’s Drops. Clocking in at seven-and-a-half minutes, the track begins as a melodic country-rock ramble before shifting into a head-spinning over-drive jam, displaying the band can write tunes and take them for a ride.
Check out the track below and, once you’ve caught your breath, head here to pre-order Run Slow ahead of its November 13th release.
