Marc Bolan © BOB GRUEN, 1971
Yesterday marks what would have been Marc Bolan’s 65th birthday. A true original and rock and roll visionary, Bolan was killed in a car accident on September 16th, 1977— just two weeks before he was to turn thirty. But before his untimely passing, Bolan amassed a stunning discography with one of rock’s brightest lights—T. Rex. From their psychedelic-folk beginnings through their days as constant hit-makers, T. Rex epitomized cool and always served up the goods with a stylish nod and a wink.
To celebrate Bolan’s birthday, Atlantic Tunnel put together a special show that should entertain and inform both the T. Rex noob and the diehard. Ed and Gaz dove deep into their personal archives and have come up with some sweet sonic treats to serve up on the show, including covers from the likes of Dib Cochrane and Johnny Thunders, as well as interview snippets from classic Bolan Q&A's. You can listen to the archive via the buton above or grab the free EVR Mobile App. As you listen (or whenever you want) stroll through these two galleries of Bolan/T. Rex collectibles from Ed and Gaz's personal collection. And when you get a chance, check out The Final Word— an excellent BBC documentary on the man born Marc Feld—which we’ve embedded for your pleasure below.
