Check out EVR's special guest show On The Fly this Tuesday, November 10th from 2 to 4 p.m. ET for a very special discussion on the rise of four of the hottest Independent NY Record Labels with the men who founded them. Join EVR regular and Glassnote Records founder Daniel Glass, as he hosts an open discussion with Founders/Presidents DJ A-Trak (Fool’s Gold Records), Syd Butler (Frenchkiss Records), and Jonathan Galkin (DFA Records).

Daniel Glass has embodied the entrepreneurial spirit of the record industry since he began his career at UK independent Chrysalis Records. He went on to success at SBK, founded Rising Tide Records with Doug Morris, and his own Glassnote Entertainment Group (Secondhand Serenade, Justin Nozuka, Phoenix, The Temper Trap, Jonas Sees In Color, Mumford & Sons, Two Door Cinema Club). He is also a Founding Board Member of LIFEbeat – The Music Industry Fights AIDS.

A-Trak began his career at the tender age of 15 when he won the 1997 DMC World Championships and then proceeded to take home every other DJ title known to man, becoming the first person to hold all 3 major dj titles at once. In 2004, he was hand-picked by Kanye West to be his tour DJ and in 2007 he founded Fool’s Gold Records with a mission to bring together all aspects of club music. Fool's Gold is already on its 26th release and home to records by Kid Cudi/Crookers, Treasure Fingers, Kid Sister amongst others. As well as DJing all over the world and establishing his record label he has offered up signature remixes for the likes of Boys Noize, Simian Mobile Disco and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and a handful of original productions including Duck Sauce smash a NY way, Say Whoa (recorded for Nike and released by hip french label Kitsune) and a techno collaboration with Laidback Luke (Shake it down). Earlier this year he launched two acclaimed DJ mix albums, one for UK super club Fabric's live series and the other his Infinity +1 mix. In 2010 he will finally release his debut artist album, ask him and he’ll tell you that this is the moment he’s been waiting for his whole career.

Syd Butler is the bass player for Les Savy Fav and the owner and founder of Frenchkiss Records. He started Frenchkiss in August of 1999 from an office in the Meatpacking District of New York City. It’s first purpose was to release Les Savy Fav’s second full length album The Cat and the Cobra, but has since been responsible for discovering and signing a wide array of bands including The Hold Steady, The Dodos, Passion Pit, and The Antlers.

Jonathan Galkin is the co-founder of DFA Records with James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) and Tim Goldsworthy. Started in September 2001, the label released their first single “House of Jealous Lovers” by the Rapture and things moved quite quickly from there. Since that time, Jonathan has signed and / or developed many acts, from Black Dice to the Juan Maclean, YACHT, Hercules & Love Affair and Hot Chip.
